Robert’s practice focuses on helping clients resolve disputes and leverage intellectual property assets, with an emphasis on patent litigation and strategic patent portfolio development and management. He serves clients in a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, and energy, as well as medical device and high-tech.
Robert represents both plaintiffs and defendants in patent litigation. He also represents clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in patent reexamination proceedings, often in conjunction with litigation. In addition to litigation, Robert counsels clients on transactional matters, such as preparing and prosecuting patent applications, patent portfolio development, and matters involving intellectual property licensing, due diligence, and product clearance.
Jim is the Practice Group Leader for Reed Smith’s International Intellectual Property Group, and focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, representing clients in trials, arbitrations and mediations throughout the United States. Jim has particular experience in technology and intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and trade dress litigation. He also advises clients on various issues relating to software licensing, software development agreements, and conflict resolution in connection with domain names and other e-commerce-related issues.
